Halva

Halva is an old-world tradition candy originating in the Mediteranian Balkans. In some areas it is made from semolina and sugar, but in Turkey it is more commonly made from Tahini, or sesame paste and sugar. Halva, being a true dessert confection comes in many varieties such as plain, flavored with vanilla. Other varieties include chocolate marbled, or bars covered with chocolate; sometimes rolled in chopped almonds or made with dried fruits, pistachios or other nuts mixed in.

Halva contains the basic nutrients of protein and vegetable fat from the Tahini, made from sesame seeds rich in calcium, iron, niacin, and B complex vitamins, and carbohydrates from the sugar.
