Bulgur General

Bulgur is the Turkish word for crushed wheat; usually made from Durum Wheat. Durum wheat has hard dark kernels and high gluten content which makes it perfect for breads and pastas. It is also high in protein, making it a great nutritious food! Bulgur is made by drying, hulling, and parboiling. If the wheat has not been dehulled, it will be called whole grain Bulgur. It has a delicious light nutty flavor and when re-constituted only with warm water, makes a fantastic base for salad, soup or stew. Bulgur is a nutritious addition to vegetable pilaf, bakery goods, or stuffings! It is best known as the main ingredient in tabouli salad, with parsley being the other main ingredient. Very nutritious and healthful with high protein and energy value, fiber and carbohydrates; a very minimal amount of sugar. Bulgur has a long shelf life, and Its high nutritional value makes it a good substitute for rice or couscous and Bulgur can also be used as a tasty cereal with milk, sugar or fruit added.
