During the Ottoman era, prayers, in vocations and lighting incense after dinner were traditions and a metal container called a “buhurdan” was used for this purpose. The Servili Censer, with its rumi and cypress -tree motifs, was inspired by the silver censer dated to 1033 and currently exhibited at the Turkish and Islamic Art Museum.

The cypress-tree, thought to bring good luck and protection in Islamic culture, has also been used as the symbol of the tree of life in Ottoman culture.

The Servili Censer is of hand-made glass and all its patterns of relief have also been produced by hand and plated in 24-carat gold.
