During the era of the Ottoman Empire, it was traditional for a sword-girding ceremony to be conducted for the sultan who was ascending the throne. The sword used in the ceremony would be a relic inherited from the sultan, the prophet or from ancestors. The designs on the Kiliç Vase and the Kiliç Bowl were inspired by the motifs on the sword rumored to belong to the Revered Osman, the original of which is under exhibit at the Topkapi Palace Treasuty Room.

Kiliç Bowl and Kiliç Vase are both of hand-made glass and all their patterns of relief have also been produced by hand and plated in 24-carat gold.
