Description
The Soteria Vase bears the design of the floor mosaic dating from 5th century A.D., unearthed in Antakya, now in display in the Archeological Museum of Antakya. This mosaic, believed to have belonged to a bathhouse bye the name of Soteria, represents a woman's bust possibly symbolizing "regeneration".
The mosaics of Antioch were used between the second and sixth century A.D. as flooring, in churches, private residences or bathhouses. The majority of these mosaics were discovered during the excavations in Antakya, Harbiye, in the environs of Cevlik. The Antioch mosaic with the technical mastery they exhibit and the decorative and naturalistic features are in the line of the Hellenistic tradition, and enlighten us about the cultural traits and artistic tastes of the period in wich they had been made.
The amber glass Soteria Vase is hand made, the glass surface that displays the mosaic designs is gilt with 24 carats gold, while each mosaic piece is tinted by hand with special glass dye.

Soteria Vazo uzerinde, Antakya' da bulunmus ve Antakya Arkeoloji Muzesi' nde sergilenmekte olan M.S. 5.yy' a tarihlenen taban mozaigi uzerinde, yazisindan adinin Soteria oldugu anlasilan ve "yenilenmeyi" temsil ettigi dusunulen bir kadin bustu yer almaktadir
Antakya mozaikleri, 2.yy baslariyla 6.yy arasinda kilise, ozel konutve hamamlarin taban dosemelri olarak yapilmis ve buyuk bolumu Antakya, Harbiye, Cevlik civarinda yapilan kazi calismalarinda ortaya cikarilmistir. Teknik ustunlukleri, dekoratif ve naturalist etkileri ile Hellenistik sanat geleneginin devami nitaliginde olan Antakya mozaikleri yapildigi donemdeki toplumun kulturel aliskanliklari ve sanat zevki hakkinda bilgi vermektedir.
